3 Tips for a Stress-Free Moving Day
Most people think of moving day as a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are a few simple tips to make sure everything goes smoothly on moving day.
Have food ready – Moving is hard work, but snacks can help keep energy and morale high throughout the day. Some coffee and donuts will be a welcome sight when you get started in the morning. Keep lots of water on hand, too, especially if the weather is warm.
Hire a sitter – If you have children, do yourself and them a favor and hire a sitter. Watching grown-ups move boxes to and from a truck all day isn’t much fun for a child, and trying to keep your kids entertained and out of the way of the movers will only make you more stressed. Hire a sitter to watch over and play with the kids so that you can focus on the move, or arrange for them to spend the day at the home of a friend or family member.
Have an inventory – As you are packing, keep a list of how many boxes you have and what is in each box. Clearly label in boxes containing fragile items. Check each box off the list as it goes into the truck, and again as each box is carried into your new home. This way, you will be sure that everything is accounted for. Inspect the contents of each of the boxes you marked as fragile as soon as you get to your destination, before the movers leave, to make sure that everything is intact.
